(3) Escalators and Elevators
We estimated the costs of installing escalators and elevators based on our experience in Tokyo. We assumed no difference in material costs, as shown in Table 9.2.1-7,between Japan and India. Table 9.2.1-1 indicates that the cost of skilled labor in India is 0.039 times that in Japan. As we judged that multiplying the figure for India by 4 more closely represents the actual situation, however, we assumed the cost of labor in India is 0.156 times that in Japan.
We also assumed that the cost of escalator installed in a room 4 m high or greater is proportional to the height of rooms it serves. In contrast, the cost of an elevator does not change regardless of the height of rooms it serves.
The unit costs and total costs for escalators and elevators are given in Table 9.3.2-8 and Table 9.3.2-9.
(4) Summarizing results
Some comments on difference between the cost estimated by JARTS and that by UBTSL will be given below:
(a) The unit cost of material such as steel, fresh concrete in Bangalore is nearly 1.5 times that in Japan.
