The quantification of vehicular pollution load was carried out by applying emission factors laid down by the World Health Organization (WHO) based on kilograms of pollutants emited per thousand kilometers of running of different categories of vehicles within city limits.
These emission factors are given in Tab1e 8.2-2.
Sample survey of approximately 100 vehicles in each category was carried out by South Zone Office, Central Pollution Control Board during 1992-93 to estimate the average daily distance covered by them in the city. This information is given in Table 8.2-3. Using the WHO emission factors, the total pollution load and the pollution load of each category of vehicle was computed. This information is summarized in Table 8.2-4.
