roads. The towns namely Channapatna, Ramanagaram, Doddaballapura, Kanakapura, Nelamangala, Devanahalli, Anekal, Vijayapura, Hoskote and Malur are the major settlements in the region. With the rapid development of Bangalore City these small settlements located on the arterial road have been growing haphazardly.

The earlier development plans gave little attention to the location and distribution of economic activities. They are only identifying of some existing Taluk headquarters in the region for economic growth and social programs and to distribute new enterprises among towns located in the region. The development of new towns and Satellite towns or to expand the existing settlement by considering the intensity of urbanization or regional linkages have to be determined.

The revised C. D. P, intended to develop number of towns within a range of about 70 kms as Satellite towns or Urban Growth Centers in order to plan for the balance and integrated development of Bangalore metropolitan Region and to control the growth of Bangalore.

These towns are:

1. Tumkur - situated on the Poona - Bangalore National Highway and also Bangalore - Miraji Railway line.

2. Doddaballapur - situated along Yelahanka - Hindupur State Highway and Bangalore - Guntakal B.G. line.

3. Kolar - situated along Bangalore Madras National Highway No. 4.

4. Knakapura - situated along Bangalore Malavalli - Mysore State Highway.

5. Ramanagaram - Channapatna twin towns - situated along Bangalore Mysore Road and Bangalore Mysore B. G. line.
