1.2 Purpose and Scope of Work of the Study
1.2.1 Purpose of the Study
In the ELRT Project, an ELRT route totalling 99.5 km is supposed to be constructed by 2011 in two phases, and the route is divided into two sections according to the phase of construction. In this case, the 25.9 km section for Phase 1 is scheduled to be completed by 2002. The UB Croup has already conducted a feasibility study on Phase 1 alone, and requested JARTS to review the project mainly in respect of demand forecast and construction cost estimation. In compliance with the request, JARTS has carried out the Study.
1.2.2 Scope of Work
(l) Basic principle
Emphasis is placed at first on sufficiently grasping the contents of the project through the report drawn up by UB Transit Systems Ltd. (UBTSL). Necessary information was then collected through site surveys, and discussions were held with the personnel concerned. Based on the results of these activities, mainly demand forecast and construction cost review were conducted, and efforts were made at thc same time to have a good grasp of the entire feasibility study.
(2) Area covered by the Study
Bangalore City
(3) Contents of the Study
(a) Grasp of the present situation of urban transport and details of the project
This was realized by site surveys, discussions with the personnel concerned, analysis of the Bangalore Comprehensive development Plan 2011 (Urban Planning), and also by identifying the contents of the available and provided documents by UBTSL on the feasibility study for the ELRT Project.
(b) Confirmation of the route
The route was confirmed through the existing report (by UBTSL) and also by site surveys, etc.
