第2回東京世界女子空手道選手権大会が、盛大に開催されるに当たり、一言お祝いの言葉を申し上げます。
空手道は、心を磨き、身体を鍛え、豊かな人間形成を目指す、我が国の長い歴史と伝統に培われた世界に誇る武道であります。今日、空手道が男女を問わず多くの人々に親しまれ、諸外国にも多くの愛好者を持つなど、広く普及し、高い評価を得ておりますことは、誠に喜ばしいことであります。
本大会は、世界約30ケ国・地域を代表する女子選手の精鋭が一堂に会し、世界チャンピオンを決定する栄えある大会であるとともに、空手道の健全な発展と国際親善に寄与することを目的として、日本で開催される大変意義深い大会であります。
また、女子空手道における世界最高の試合を身近に観戦できますことは、これから空手道を目指す子どもたちに大きな夢と希望を育む大変価値あることであります。
選手の皆さん、日ごろ鍛えた技と力を十分に発揮し、立派な成果をあげてください。そして、この機会に日本の伝統や文化にも触れていただき、素晴しい思い出をつくられるよう希望します。
終わりに、本大会の開催に御尽力された世界空手連盟、財団法人全日本空手道連盟をはじめ、関係の皆様方に心から敬意を表しますとともに、本大会の御成功とますますの御発展を祈念して祝辞といたします。
I would like to offer congratulations on the holding of the 2nd Ladies' International Karate Cup.
Karatedo aims not only at the discipline of mind and body but also at the shaping of character as one of our historical, traditional martial arts. It is indeed a great pleasure that Karatedo has been popularized in abroad regardless of sex.
The purpose of the tournament is the contribution to the prosperity of Karatedo and international friendship among the participants from 30 countries and regions.
I do hope that all the athletes representing each country or region will be able to demonstrate satisfactorily the results of their daily training. I also hope that everybody has an opportunity to learn about Japanese tradition and culture and make great memories.
Last, but not least, I would like to express my cordial appreciation World Karate Federation, Japan Karatedo Federation and everybody concerned in ensuring the success of this event, and wish you the best of fortune at this tournament.
