5. Then we travelled to Kofu and visited YAMANASHI PREF. HYGIENE LABORATORY and the actual site of schistosomiasis endemic areas.
Insights learned in the Eradication Strategies:
- Focus on environmental sanitation and engineering control such as concreting of ditches and establishment of concrete canals and patchsways.
- Control of snail using silver nitrate solution and lime.
- Intensified Health Education and Promotion on Schisto Control and Eradication.
- Community organization and participation of the community in the control/eradication of schistosomiasis.
- Active Surveillance System in placed.
- Regular monitoring and evaluation of Schistosomiasis Eradication Program
6. The last institution visited was Dokkyo University School of Medicine where I gave a short lecture on Schistosomiasis Control Program in the Philippines, showed me how the following laboratory examination being conducted such as: C0PT and ELISA and also the hospital operation.
7. All the institutions visited provided me brochures and handouts for reference.
I would say that the 10 days travel widen my perspective in the control and eradication of Schistosomiasis.
