The official travel to Japan was to observed and experienced the various strategies and activities including research in the eradication of schistosomiasis in Japan.
Upon arrival to Japan, Dr.Yasuraoka provided me all information relative to schistomiasis eradication program and other parasitic disease during the entire course of my stay in Japan.
HIGHLIGHTS 0F THE VISIT:
1. MEETING WITH PROFESSOR KENZO KIIKUNI, Executive Managing Director of the Sasakawa Memorial Health Foundation and discuss briefly the status of Schistosomiasis Control in the Philippines, what are our priority areas for reduction, elimination or possible eradication of schistosomiasis, strategies and actiVities currently implemented.
2. Brief visit to the National Institute of Infectious Diseases and oriented me on the latest trend on research activities, including use of modern equipment for data presentation and analysis as well as imaging of research results.
3. Visited the Meguro Parasitological Museum and showed us around and briefed us on the historical background of the Museum.
4. At Juntendo University, College of Medicine, Dr.Nara, the researcher on Vaccine Development in Schistosomiasis japonicum discussed with me process and effects of the vaccine to animals.Like other countries doing the same research is a long way to go. Then we proceeded to the Department of Parasitology, Institute of Medical Science, University of Tokyo and personally met Dr. Somei Kojima, Secretary GeneraI of ICOPAIX to be held in Japan in August, l998.
