Subject: Oil Spill in Japan Sea

Dear Harry and John,
On 3 Jan 1996, the Russian oil tanker spilled 3700 t (ca. 23000 barrels) in Japan Sea (off Oki Is., Shimane Prefecture) . The tanker still has ca.
15000 t (93000 barrels) in its body. Oil is drifting southeast, and may reach to the Kanmuri I., off Wakasa Bay (Kyoto Prefecture).
Kanmuri I. is known as the breeding coLony of the streaked shearwater and also the Japanese murrelet.
Japan Alcid Society and JSCC is collecin9 the infomation on oil birds.
(We are getting ready for the information Comnittee for Oil Birds.)
Although, I don't know how should we do such cases.
If you have any idea for oil birds (How do we treat the oil birds, how do we research and estimate the oil pollution, and so on... ) , please Let me know!
