?A Bearing capacity of the soft ground

To evaluate this, centrifugal and field loading tests were conducted. Comparison between the test results and respective bearing capacities are as shown in Fig.7. For the evaluation of the bearing capacity of ground under compaction close to the normal consolidation as in the case of the sea area for Kumamoto Port construction, Vaughen et. al's method is highly applicable.

?B Slide resistance

Fig. 8 shows the vertical distribution of bending strain due to field horizontal loading test and the bending strain distribution when reaction expressed by Broms's single pile formula is in operation. The theoretical values by Broms's formula were obtained as the mean of monoaxial compressive strengths from the surface layer to -4 m. The diagram reveals that, is depicted with the back piles, the pile lateral resistance in ultimate condition agrees well with Broms's formula.
