The JMSA Information System, inaugurated in October 1985, is a computerized system that provides and processes real-time information 24 hours a day. The system is composed of computer terminals, on which information can be entered and accessed, installed at Maritime Safety offices, the Maritime Safety stations of designated ports, air stations, district communications centers, and other Maritime Safety facilities throughout the nation. These terminals are linked on-line, via their respective regional headquarters, with the JMSA Headquarters' data processing base.
This system works to increase the efficiency of maritime safety operations, by centrally controlling information, in order to respond appropriately to incidents at sea.
