(3) Preparation of the Coastal Disaster Prevention Informational Chart
JMSA has prepared the Coastal Disaster Prevention Informational Charts, which on one chart provides comprehensively the information required when an earthquake, tsunami, or other natural disaster occurs, in order to carry out quick and appropriate maritime rescue and relief activities in the event of such natural disasters. JMSA distributes these charts to disaster prevention related agencies. In FY 1996, in addition to the Kanto, Tokai, and Kagoshima regions, it has also been investigating Osaka Bay and the coastal areas of the Kii Channel which are near the Median Tectonic Line, one of Japan's largest faults.
Hereafter, JMSA will continue to proceed to prepare similar charts for regions nationwide with a high probability of natural disaster occurrence.

The results obtained through these activities are reported to the Earthquake Research Committee of the Headquarters of Earthquake Research Promotion and Coordination Committee for Earthquake Prediction. In addition to being the basic data for understanding the mechanism for the occurrence of earthquakes, which include data pertaining to the distribution and nature of faults in sea areas and stress on the earth's crust, JMSA publishes " "Submarine Geological Structural Charts, "this data in the form of the "Bathymetric Charts, "Magnetic Anomaly Charts," and "Gravity Anomaly Charts."
