2. The State of Occurrences of Marine Leisure-Related Seaside Accidents and Their Causes
(1) Scuba Diving
Thirty people (69 people in 1994) were the victims of accidents. Of these,17 people (29 people in 1994) died or are missing.
 
(2) Windsurfing
Forty-three people (40 people in 1994) were the victims of accidents. Of course two people (three people in 1994) died or are missing.
 
(3) Surfing
Thirty-two people (26 people in 1994) were the victims of accidents. Of these eight people (three people in 1994) died or are missing.
 
(4) Shore Fishing
One hundred fifty-four people (194 people in 1994) were the victims of accidents. Of these, 84 people (89 people in 1994) died or are missing.
 
(5) Swimming
Two hundred thirty-one people (380 people in 1994) were the victims of accidents. Of these, 142 people (207 people in 1994) died or are missing.
 
III. Promotion of Measures to Prevent Accidents in and Contribute to the Sound Growth of Marine Leisure
 
1. Safety Instruction, etc., for Marine Leisure Participants
In addition to visiting marinas and other such locations to provide safety instruction, JMSA also carries out campaigns to emphasize maritime disaster prevention and works to educate and raise the awareness of marine leisure enthusiasts regarding maritime disaster prevention.
Furthermore, JMSA works to improve knowledge and skills related to safety. It uses videos, slides, and other teaching materials to conduct disaster prevention seminars, maritime safety classes, training sessions, etc., related to small boat safety, in regions throughout the nation.
