2 Railcar Inspection

(1) Inspection systems and cycle
a. Periodical Inspection
Periodical inspections of railcars should be thoroughly linked to their operational conditions. Different machine parts should be inspected according to their particular operational factors. The inspection system must he based on the operational principles and the names, periods and contents of the inspection must he determined for each railcar type.
(a) Inspection of conditions and use
An inspection of the general appearance of each component should be performed on a regular basis at frequent intervals. If deterioration is observed it should be measured, worn parts should be replaced, parts should be adjusted and cleaned, oil should be changed. This includes specification inspections and monthly inspections.
(b) Inspection of main parts
As an intermediaiy measure for parts that are used over a relatively long period of time, it is important to perform an inspection to ensure that machine output is being maintained at rated levels and that powering and braking mechanisms are working properly. Such parts should be disassembled and the individual components examined carefully. This includes the 2nd truck inspection, the 2nd monthly inspection B, a monthly inspection (specified replacements) and the inspection of main parts.
(c) Overall inspection
After a machine has been in use for a period of 4.5 - '7 years it is important to disassemble and carefully inspect all components, repair any damaged body parts and repaint it. This overall inspection is certainly the most important and the largest scale inspection.
b. Inspections carried out to meet needs
As part of a preventive maintenance program railcars are inspected at periodic intervals.
However, it is possible that breakdowns occur during operations between the periodic inspection intervals. In order to meet such a situation the following inspections have been determined.
(a) Operational inspection
This inspection is performed during operations to adjust areas that have experienced a breakdown as a sort of simple temporary step.
