2.3.3 Urban Transport

 

(1)Modal Split
The ratio of each mode of transport (modal split) in the Cape Metropolitan Region is basically as indicated in Figure 2-6. Car transport accounts for the largest share with 44% and is followed by rail (27%), bus (16%) and taxi (6%). So-called public modes of transport account for 49% of the total.

 

Movement in the ratio of car utilization, as can be inferred from the Figure 2-6, has remained stable, and it is estimated that the share of public modes of transport has also remained steady.
