Promotion of private investment, development of residential land adjoining existing urban functions, and the strengthening of existing urban centers and building of new urban centers in unison with the above, in order to secure urban functions that can resolve the current imbalances that exist in urban functions and access to employment
f. Job creation to support self-aid in poor districts and help resolve poverty, the implementation of small-scale industrial development, and promotion of public participation in policy-making processes to encourage local independence
g. Implementation of urban area development that stresses economic and social development

 

As part of the above development process, the following large-scale projects and plans are underway.

h-2. Metropolitan Region Comprehensive Transport Plan
h-3. Capricorn Science Park
h-4. District Six Development Plan
h-5. Service Land Project
h-6. Philippi Markets Project

 

2.3.2 Urban Functions
(1)The features of each of the sub-regions that go to make up the metropolitan region are described below.
1)Inner City Area (City Bowl)
This old part of Cape Town, which developed along a inlet (Table Bay) facing the Atlantic Ocean, is in a historic site having Table Mountain in the background.
2)Middle City Area
Middle City, which developed along the arterial roads and railway running from south to east, has a rich cultural character in that it boasts a good living environment and high concentration of commercial, recreational and other urban functions.
