1.4.3 Outline of the Study in Cape Town

Regarding the organization of the Cape Town city administration, the City Planner's Department is composed of the City Planning Section and the Metropolitan Transport Section. The planning of new urban transport including the LRT is currently being advanced by the City Planning Section, and it was the staff of this section who acted as the counterparts to the study. As a result, although it was possible to obtain many materials and data relating to traffic volume studies and other city planning areas, difficulty was experienced in collecting data for use in calculating line construction costs and operating expenses.

Furthermore, because the partial urban transport planning being examined within the City Planning Section has yet to receive the consensus of the whole city, it is necessary to raise the level of planning advancement in order to realize concrete measures.
