The study started with a review of the report "CBD-Waterfront Light Rail Link, by Peter Clark" which had been obtained in advance. In South Africa, the study team studied the current conditions of urban transport in Cape Town and made a final decision on system and route upon advancing discussions with the city authorities on problem areas in the current urban transport situation and future development plans and urban planning. In addition, the team collected urban transport volume studies and data relating to population distribution, land use plans and basic data for calculation of the amount of investment. After returning to Japan, the study team compiled a basic plan for the selected route, carried out forecasting of demand, compiled a service plan, calculated costs, and examined profitability in an overall assessment of the project, and finally prepared the draft report.
After being checked by the committee, the draft report will be sent to the Cape Town city administration, and a final report will be prepared after incorporating any opinions given by the local side.
