Morphological study on development of jumping and reaching
in young children
Masashi MIYAMARU
Movement characteristics of jumping and reaching for an overhead target were experimentally examined in 124 young boys 2−8 years of age.Developmental changes in the jumping motion were summarized as follows:
1)Motion range sat the hip, knee and ankle joints during take off increased with age. These were mostly caused by progressive increases in hip and knee flexion at the preliminary crouching phase.
2)Arm motion during jumping and reaching was classified into six types progressing with age from the most immature type with out actual reaching to the mature type characterized by an effective swinging motion with arm opposition as an actual reaching movements.
3)Extension of the body and dorsiflexion of the head at the crest of the reach increased gradually with age.
