The relationship between understanding and attitude of university students toward their past school athletic club activities and their present sport involvement.

This study attempted to examine the relationship between the understanding and attitude of university students toward their junior-high school and/or high school athletic cluh activities and the degrees and styles of their present participation in sport activities.
Four hundred seventyone male and 226 female university students responded to a questionnaire between October, 1995 and January, 1996.
On analysis of cross tabulation (contingency table), the following observations were made
1. the degrees of paticipation in systematic sport activities and the styles of involvement were influenced by differences in experience in the past school athletic club activities.
2. the degrees and styles of present sport-involvement were also influenced hy the understanding and attitude toward past school athletic club activities.
The result of factor-analysis revealed that understanding and attitude toward past school athletic club activities was composed of the following 7 factors:
1. satisfaction and self-confidence in one's abilities and skillfulness, 2. subjectivity in goal-setting,3. enjoyment and satisfaction in school athletic club activities, 4. satisfaction in team-performance,5. reliahility of coaches and their coaching-methods, 6. inter-personal relationship in clubs, 7. evaluation on school athletic club activities by others.
Among these 7 factors, factor 1, factor 3, factor 4, factor 5, and factor 7 were significantly related to the current sport-involvement.
