All students in the College of Maritime Sciences, as an integral part
of their professional training, participate in a cooperative educational programme at sea
during the third year. Students are placed aboard Training Ship for one year.
The shipboard training programme provides students with the opportunity
to utilise a ship as a seagoing laboratory. Students are given a study guidance, and in
addition to performing shipboard duties, are required to complete written assignments
which they submit to the designated training representative for evaluation and grading.
The assignments are carefully designed to ensure that students, while aboard ship, apply
the knowledge and skills learned in the University classrooms and acquire a firm
foundation for advanced study when they return to campus. In addition to written
assignments, all students take written examinations at the end of sea training period.
