All interested students from BIMP-EAGA member countries, male and
female are welcome to enroll in the said school. They would be accommodated to any of the
courses which suits them most. For the prospective students who cannot read or write, the
municipality of Jolo has an existing "Adult Education System" to train these
particular people to be able to enroll in the Maritime Academy later on.
The primary reason for the establishment of this Maritime Academy to
meet the needs of the prospective students, for their appropriate education and training
to be productive and beneficial citizens of the BIMP-EAGA community.
The ideal entry requirement for the prospective students would be high
school graduate, or upon completion of secondary education. However, to accommodate
deserving students, entry requirement is flexible taking into consideration the work
experience or the equivalent qualification for such entry.
The training equipment and facilities will allow the students to meet
the demands of the trade locally and internationally. The International Convention on the
Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping (STOW), 1976 and the International
Convention on the Safety of Life At Sea (SOLAS), 1974 provisions of the International
Maritime Organization are thoughtfully taken into account in the offered curricula for the
students to be safety conscious and competitive as well. To accomplish this, equipment and
facilities for this matter are to be installed in the very near future prior to its
initial operation.
