Abstract

The paper is relevant to the problem of co-ordination curricula of MET(E) with new technics in the field of ship propulsion installation and up-to-date maintenance, which junior ship engineer immediately deal with. Actually the following topics are considered:

- total electrification of ship power installation with the description of a feasible scheme of its realisation in the near future (MHDG and MHDM);

- application of CLT propellers;

- impact of oil and wastes from ships on the marine environment;

- manning.

A marine college graduate deal with auxiliary systems and devices usually highly electrified. There is the probability of extension of electrification on board of ships. It makes the augment of electrical courses in MET(E) curricula indispensable.

On the whole materials of the paper contain:

- some characterization of ships and their power installations; standing exposed trends of their changes; a concept about some addition to MET(E) curricula.

Keywords: ship power installation, propeller, oil spill, curriculum.

It is a matter of fact that a volume and content of MET curricula must be determined by relevant requirements, i.e., first of all, by quantitative and qualitative composition of fleet, trends of these characteristics and their feasible changes in the future.

One may note the important difference in rate of qualitative change of ship navigational and power equipment: units and navigational and informative purposes are comparatively cheap and movable easily and smoothly for a ship, meanwhile her power including propulsive installation accounts sometimes over 30 per cent of total investments and its advisable running duration must not be less than 25...30 years, i.e. the lifetime of
