Our Institute has a university leadership, the leading part being the
Senate. At faculties level, the Council is the one that ensures the democratic leading.
The students have their own representatives in the Senate and Faculty Councils, and they
are our partners in taking the decisions.
The Rector and the Deans are democratically elected every 4 years.
After graduation a joint exam is organized to grant the students both
an engineering diploma and a 3rd officer certificate. The National Marine Authority, the
authority that, in fact, grants the certificates, also takes part in this examination.
3. CURRICULA
The curricula must meet the requirements imposed by the Ministry of
Education for the engineering diplomas, the STCW and Romanian marine authorities.
It is difficult enough to compress all these in only 4 years of study,
including the training on board vessels as well. That is why we have a 5 year period of
study, a period during which the entire curriculum and the practical training are covered.
There was difficult to establish the proper balance between the
technical subjects and the specific seamanship ones. Room must be made almost every year
for new subjects that must keep the pace with the new trends in the field of shipping.
To exemplify, in table 1 is synthetically presented the curriculum for
electromechanical specialization.
