CAJS operates through its General Meeting, Board of Directors and functional Committees. The General Meeting is the supreme decision-making body of the association.

The Board of Directors discusses and selects matters to be presented to the General Meeting, and makes decisions on other important affairs of business. Each standing Committee is responsible for a different area of the business of CAJS, and each subgroup, for a different sector of members' activities. A Special Committee is organized on an ad hoc basis as required.

　当会は総会、理事会、各種委員会により運営される。総会は当会の意思決定の最高議決機関である。総会に付議すべき事項、その他事業遂行上の重要事項は、理事会が審議し、決定する。委員会は当会の業務区分別に、部会は会員の事業別に設け、さらに必要の都度特別委員会を設けている。

　

As set forth in the Articles of Association, CAJS "seeks to endeavor for the development of the medium-size and small-size shipbuilding industry (hereinafter referred to as 'smaller shipbuilding industry') by helping strengthen their business bases and enhance their technical standards, thereby to contribute to the advancement of the ship machinery industry and to the development of the Japanese economy." To achieve these objectives, CAJS engages in the following activities.

　

　定款に定められているように、当会は「中型造船業及び小型造船業（以下「中小型造船業」という。）の経営基盤の強化、技術の向上等中小型造船業の発展を図り、もって関連産業の発展に資するとともに、我が国経済の発展に寄与することを目的」とし、この目的を達成するために以下の事業を行っている。

　

The secretariat of CAJS, located at Toranomon, Minato-ku, Tokyo, consists of three departments; General Affairs, Business Affairs, Technology Departments. CAJS further operates three overseas offices jointly with the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO).

　当会は東京都港区虎ノ門に事務局を置き、総務部、業務部、技術部の3部より成る。さらに日本貿易振興会（ジェトロ）と共同で3か所に海外事務所を開設している。

　

　

　

　

　

　

　

　

Since its establishment in 1959, CAJS has carried out various business activities with the support and financial assistance of the Nippon Foundation (the Japan Shipbuilding Industry Foundation). Its main activities are described in some detail below.

　

Since its inauguration, CAJS has surveyed shipping and shipbuilding situations in well over 80 countries in the world, and compiled its findings into written reports, which serve as basic references for the promotion of international cooperation.

In developing countries in particular, ships are playing a vital role in people's everyday life and socioeconomic development. CAJS identifies ship types matching the particular needs of individual countries, and endeavours to facilitate the supply of such ships under economic aid schemes.

　

With a view to appropriately coping with the rapid progress of technological innovation and changes in demand structure, CAJS carries out investigation and research concerning the development of new technologies.

The association also develops and prepares basic designs hull forms for various types of smaller ships, and compiles the achievements in this regard into design guidelines and brochures.

　

CAJS is operating overseas offices in Paris, New York and Singapore in cooperation with JETRO, and engaged in activities to collect and provide shipping and shipbuilding information, promotion of economic and technical cooperation, and encouragement of international cooperation.

　

CAJS cooperates and participates in the organization of the Asian and Pacific Shipbuilding Experts Meeting (APSEM).

　

CAJS cooperates in the promotion of economic cooperation projects implemented by the Japanese Government.

　

CAJS keeps its members and a wide spectrum of other interested partes well informed of trends of the shipbuilding industry and of its own activities by publishing official organs and news flashes.

　

CAJS conducts investigation and research regarding the employment labour management, working conditions and labour safety and sanitation of member shipyards.

　

CAJS provides guidance, through interviews and otherwise, for the technical improvement as well as modernization and rationalization of smaller shipbuilders.

　昭和34年の創立以来、当会は日本財団（財団法人日本船舶振興会）の補助、助成を受けて、各種の事業を遂行している。その主な内容は以下の通り。

　

　当会は設立以来、世界80数か国の海運・造船事情等を調査し、報告書にとりまとめ、国際協調推進のための基礎資料としている。特に、開発途上国においては船舶は住民生活や社会経済の発展に重要な役割を果たしており、それぞれの国に適した船型を調査し、経済協力による供与促進を図っている。

　

　当会は、技術革新の急速な進展ならびに需要構造の変化に対応するため、新技術の開発に関する調査、研究を行っている。また、中小型船を対象として各種船種の船型開発及び基本設計を行いその成果を設計指針・パンフレットにとりまとめている。

　

　当会は、日本貿易振興会（ジェトロ）と共同でパリ、ニューヨークおよびシンガポールに海外事務所を開設し、海運・造船情報の収集・提供、経済・技術協力の促進、国際協調の推進に携わっている。

　

　当会は、アジア太平洋造船専門家会議の運営に協力、参加している。

　

　当会は、政府が行う経済協力事業の促進に協力している。

　

　当会は、会報の発行、速報の配布により、造船業をめぐる趨勢ならびに事業の状況を会員および関係者に広く周知している。

　

　当会は、会員造船所の雇用、労務管理、労働条件、労働安全衛生などに関する調査、研究を行っている。

　

　当会は、中小型造船業の技術向上、設備の近代化、合理化等のための面談指導等を行っている。
