The Issue Rephrased
Is DOTS, the package of policies advocated by WHO for effective TB control programs, the remedy or the cure-all for our TB problem and when applied will lead to sustained reduction in TB morbidity and mortality?
SUMMARY
Current evidence do not support the contention that DOTS is the panacea for TB control
However
・Effective implementation of DOTS is an essential and most important first step for any TB control program
・Without effective DOTS implementation, it is not necessary to consider other options to control TB
・In some areas, the simultaneous implementation of DOTS and other inputs or control measures are needed to control the TB epidemic
