Limitation of DOTS
Partial DOTS
・Failure to implement the full package of DOTS policies
・Common failures include the following:
- Insufficient government commitment resulting in failure to fully finance all aspects of DOTS
- Poor quality control or supervision leads to poor implementation in peripheral areas
- Inadequate training for staff, especially in peripheral areas
- Failure to use information in recording/reporting system for management of program
・Partial DOTS is NOT DOTS!
One Other Caveat
・A good DOTS program, when implemented under the right circumstances, can reduce mortality from TB
・There is little data to show that DOTS can reduce the incidence of TB (disease morbidity)
