・Government's policy on encouragement of local and foreign investment: promulgated
・Source: State Budget, mobilized funds from transport users and other sources, local or foreign investments in form of BOT, BT, exchange of land for infrastructure, soft loans
・Expansion of cooperation with foreign companies
For the past years, consultants and experts from JTCA as well as other Japanese organizations have worked in warm cooperation with the TDSI to study national transport development strategy.
Since August 2000, under the direction of MOT and HCMC PC, TDSI South together with JTCA have conducted a preparatory work on the project of HCMC Metro, namely a small-scale demand survey along the two most important corridors, Tan Son Nhat-Ben Thanh and Ben Thanh-Binh Tay Market, whose result shows rapidly increasing demand which exceeds all previous forecasts.
After this seminar, we hope that the two sides maintain and develop the close cooperation and overcome all encountered obstacles to conduct a feasibility project for the first metro lines in HCMC.
2.4.5. Discussion
Prof.Hihotshi Ieda, Tokyo University
I would like to chair the free discussion about one hour.
First of all, I would like to summarize the speeches and presentations of every member. Firstly, Dr.Iwata pointed out the importance of the discussion on mass public transit, and he proposes such an integration with overall urban development plan, or formulation of development strategy for priority corridors, and the establishment of sustainable development and so on. And mass transit matter after several existing studies.
