Growing Power Outputs of Marine Main Engines And Capacities of Lube Pumps for Main Engines

Along with the need for ever more powerful diesel engines for the propulsion of ships, lubricating oil pumps for main engines are required to have correspondingly greater capacities. Whereas Taiko Kikai Industries produces a series of three-rotor screw pumps including the world's largest class in capacity (30 to 750 m3/h), recently many hull forms have emerged whose shell structure around the main engine impose tight restrictions on the arrangement of a three-rotor screw pump along the broadside, and this is especially true of containerships.

In view of this recent tendency, Taiko Kikai has surmounted the limitations on outfitting by adding large-capacity centrifugal lubricating oil pumps of tank-mounted type to its lines of products. Thus, the manufacturer has added five new models to its products, previously covering the capacity range of 30 to 650 m3/h, and thereby extended the upper end of the range to 1,500 m3/h. Taiko's tank-mounted centrifugal lubricating oil pumps have their unique features in impeller and casing, which prevent the generation of radial load and contribute to substantially increasing the capacities of main engine lubricating pumps.

To keep up with the increasing diversification of ships and the decreasing space available for engine rooms, Taiko Kikai is also trying to workout more compact and lighter centrifugal pumps of higher speed, and has developed centrifugal pumps of bipolar (3,600 min-1) revolving speed. Having acquired ISO 9001 certificates for its engine room pumps which find high demand in the market, the company delivers global standards to fleets sailing the Seven Seas of the World.
