(2) Arrangement of Oil Spill Combating Equipment and Materials
JCG is promoting the establishment of an oil spill combating system through such measures as providing oil spill combating equipment and materials and other devices at principal coast guard offices and stations nationwide in order to respond properly to oil spill accidents, as well as carrying out guidance for the owners of tankers and other vessels and for the managers of oil storage facilities over a certain size so that they install the appropriate oil spill combating equipment and materials and other devices in accordance with the Marine Pollution Prevention Law.
(3) Establishment of the System for the Trajectory Prediction
In order to implement removal measures in response to oil spill accidents, and other accidents, highly accurate drift estimates are necessary. This is also of importance for search and rescue activities. In response, JCG newly created a post of assistant director for trajectory prediction who makes plans concerning the implementation of trajectory prediction tasks, coordinates with other rescue and disaster prevention organizations, for example, and established a system for the collection and transmission of real-time data concerning sea conditions, such as the currents and winds in a particular sea-area, in order to create a regularly updated database to develop the trajectory prediction system which will make rapid and accurate prediction calculation possible.
(4) Development of the Coastal Area Marine Environment Conservation Information
In order to speedily and accurately provide information regarding coastal areas, JCG is carrying out projects to develop a database of coastal maritime area environment conservation information, which will contain disaster prevention information concerning oil removal equipment and materials and other devices, social information and natural information.
