Annex Structure and Operations of the Marine Accidents Inquiry Association
Section 1 Outline
1. Objectives
The Marine Accidents Inquiry Association was established on July 1, 1968, is affiliated with the Minister of Transport and supervised by the director general of the High Marine Accidents Inquiry Agency. In line with its goal of contributing to the advancement of seafaring, the association conducts research on marine accident inquiries and accidents subjected inquiry with the aim helping prevent their reoccurrence, as well as works to protect the rights of individuals involved in marine accident inquiries, thereby ensure the effective operation of the marine accident inquiry system.
2. Organization
The Marine Accidents Inquiry Association is headquartered in Tokyo and has branch offices in Sapporo and seven other cities. The association also has nine Marine Accidents Advisor's offices, one in Tokyo and eight in the same cities as the eight Local Marine Accident Inquiry agencies.
