To improve marine safety Marine Accidents Inquiry

The Marine Accidents Inquiry Agency (MAIA) clarifies the causes of marine accidents through lawsuit-like procedures called “marine accidents inquiry” in order to make contribution to prevention of such accidents.

The marine accidents inquiry system in Japan was established by “the Mariner's Disciplinary Punishment Law” of 1896, and has been succeeded by “the Marine Accidents Inquiry Law” of 1947. The system has been in force for over 100 years.
