2. The spouse, lineal relative, brother or sister of an Examinee may independently select a Counsellor.

Article 17. The selection of a Counsellor shall be made for each instance of inquiry.

2. The selection mentioned in paragraph 1 shall be made by submitting a document countersigned by the Counsellor to the Marine Accidents Inquiry Agency.

(Request for a Special Counsellor)

Article 18. The request for a permission mentioned in Article 25, the proviso of paragraph 1, of the Marine Accidents Inquiry Law (hereinafter refferred to as the Law) shall be made by submitting a document to the Marine Accidents Inquiry Agency. In this case the Marine Accidents Inquiry Agency shall make a ruling as to whether the request of it is permitted or not.

(Perusal and Copying of Documents and Real Evidences)

Article 19. A Counsellor may peruse or copy documents and real evidences related to the case. However, the Presiding Judge (including the judge conducting a simple inquiry alone; hereinafter the same) may restrict such perusal or copy for what is necessary to preserve the evidences.

2. A Counsellor may, with the permission of the Presiding Judge, cause his employees or other persons to copy the documents as provided for in paragraph 1.

(Use of Stenographer by Counsellor)

Article 20. A Counsellor may, with the permission of the Presiding Judge, use a stenographer at the court.
