Since its opening in 1978, more than 340 million passengers have passed through Narita airport, and about 67,000 passengers arrive or depart every day from the airport's two passenger terminals.
Furthermore, the airport has handled about 22 million tons of cargo over the past 21 years. About 4,300 tons of goods move through the airport every day.
In response to the ever-increasing demands on the airport, Terminal 1 was renovated under the management of the Narita Airport Authority(NAA).
The new 216,100-square-meter Terminal 1 opened on March 16. The new terminal's wider spaces make it easier for the disabled and the elderly to get around.
