Fresh Water Generator

Plate Type Fresh Water Generator AQUARIO

Sasakura Engineering Co., Ltd. is a leading manufacturer of desalination plants for both marine and non-marine uses.

The K Series of heat transfer piped fresh water generators for use aboard diesel-powered ships, whose manufacturing started in 1961, have undergone incessant performance improvement ever since their introduction, resulting in ever higher performance and reliability and favorable acceptance by users. Already more than 10,000 sets of such plants have been delivered.

Further to tailor its products to the customers' requirements, in addition to the well established K Series which use heat transfer piping between the heater and the condenser, Sasakura has applied its latest technology for plate type heat exchangers, and successfully developed the new generation plate type fresh water generator Aquario for marine use, taking advantage of the superior features of the plate type configuration.

Aquario is distinguished from conventional plate type fresh water generators above all by a structure which prevents the exterior of the heat transfer plate block from coming in contact with seawater by building the vapor channel and the distillate channel into the plate block.

The heat transfer plates of Aquario are newly developed unique products, structured for efficient response to phase changes from liquid to gas and from gas to liquid. Sasakura's long built up know-how is also fully utilized to meet requirements elsewhere than the heat transfer section, such as separation of fine seawater splashes (to maintain the purity of fresh water), suppression of scale deposition, resistance to corrosion, and a mechanism to maintain vacuum in the evaporation chamber.

Notes

1. Heat value, power consumption and other values indicate the maximum data of the distillate quantity shown in the frame.

2. Heat value, temperature, flow rate condition, etc. indicate those of common examples.

Features

A. Heat exchange section without front cover

1. Any leakage from the heat exchange section could be readily detected merely by direct observation.

2. As there is no need to open the front cover of the evaporator for maintenance work, the installation space including the allowance for cover opening is correspondingly reduced.

3. Overhauling and reassembling of the heat exchanger at the time of maintenance and inspection are facilitated and quickened.

4. The plant is less susceptible to trouble due to corrosion because the frame, guide bar, plate fastening bolts and nuts, and end cover do not come into contact with seawater during operation.

B. The use of a rubber-based adhesive facilitates replacement of the plate gaskets on board.

C. Scale deposition in heat transfer plates and gap clogging do not readily occur because the plate gaps on the seawater side are expanded aud pressure gauge readiugs make possible confirmation of the appropriate feed water flow rate, thereby facilitating control of the seawater concentration ratio.
