5. Host response to M. Ieprae is still poorly understood. The role of such factors as host genetics in determining susceptibility to infection and/or immunopathology will provide important pointers to the mechanisms involved.
6. New approaches to investigating the molecular details of immunological recognition
could have important practical applications for detecting infection.
7. We believe that it is important that an integrated approach to the study of pathogenesis should be encouraged. A great deal can be learned by drawing on the expertise available in related fields such as neurobiology, immunology and molecular biology.
