At present there are still 56 homeless disabled patients with an average age of 62 years old living there.
One-third of them have completely lost their abilities of daily life and need daily care. As a head elected by the patients, I united all the patients to help each other as the members in a big family, moreover I set myself as an example. Now all the patients live full of happiness in the village and nobody feels lonely. In addition, we also make contributions to the hospital including repairing the hospital, constructing roads, planting trees and vegetables. This year, the hospital made an investment of 120,000 Yuan to establish a pig farm.
There are hundreds of pigs on the farm now and they are supplied to the market place for sale.
In medical care, I assist doctors in carrying out leprosy rehabilitation and make demonstrations to educate patients about self-care of their hands, feet and eyes. The results of this rehabilitation are very satisfactory. At present, our leprosy village has become a paradise with a good environment and beautiful buildings. There are televisions, radios, recorders, chess, playing cards, music instruments and so on in our own club. During the festivals, we usually organize some activities including get-together meetings and "karaoke" evening meetings. I have served the leprosy village for 27 years. During the long period, I feel there are sometimes hardships but also many times of much happiness. I throw all my energy into my work in the village to help the patients gain a better value from their lives; this is my lifetime pursuit.
