Physical fitness and nutritional status of junior youth soccer players 13-14-years-old belonging to a professional Japanese soccer club team were investigated.Subjects practiced one and a half hours a day, five times a week for at least three years. Body heights and weights were the same as the average Japanese body dimensions. However, all subjects showed excellent functional abilities. We measured isokinetic knee extension strength at a speed of 60°/s, knee extension power, 30 m and 50 m running times, and Vo2max and its related variables.Comparing some variables with average Japanese values, 50 m running time was 7-9% faster and Vo2,max was 25-45% greater, Nutrition survey showed that the players consumed sufficient quality and quantity in their daily meals according to the recommended dietary allowance. These results indicate that the training program including nutrition was very effective.
