The 90,844-dwt SOMA MARU is a coal carrier built by Koyo Dockyard Co., Ltd. and delivered to Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. and International Marine Transport Co., Ltd. on October 4, 1995. She is in service to transport coal from Australia to Japan.
Features
1. The wide-beam and shallow-draft hull form is adopted to meet the limitations of the port facilities.
2. The ship has seven cargo holds and each hold is provided with a side-rolling type hatch cover.
3. A stern form fitted with a shoe piece is adopted for improved maneuverability.
4. The hatch side coaming is inclined for higher efficiency of loader operation during unloading.
