Questionnaires Regarding Ship Inspection
Q1】 What organizations in the Government stipulate and amend the regulations related to ship Safety Law, Oil Pollution Prevention Law, and Fishing Vessels Law, and carry out the inspection of ships based on these laws and regulations ?
A1》 The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, the Marine Policy Office, the Ship Safety Division, the Ship Standards Division and the Marine Environment Divition are responsible for these items.
A2》 Statutory inspection of the Korean flag ships is carried out by the Korean Government, the Korean Register of Shipping(KR) and the Korea Fishing Vessel Society. KR carries out the statutory inspection of the ships(1,688 merchant & fishing vessels) being registered with KR, and the Korea Fishing Vessel Society performs the survey of fishing vessels which are not registered with KR on behalf of the government, and the rest (4,497 merchant vessels) by the government itself.
Q2】 What parts of the governmental inspection are entrust to KR, and how are the grounds therefor specified in the articles of the laws and regulations?
A》 Statutory Inspection including the life-saving appliances for the KR-classed ships are out carried by KR.
