Dear Mr. Seki Masayuki,
First of all, I deeply apologize to you for the belated reply to your letter of July 18 1997, regarding questionnaires on ship inspections, due to my urgent job to amend the Korean Ship Safety Act, bill of which was presented to the National Assembly.
For your information, the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries has decided to delegate the statutory inspection for the ships other than KR-classed ships to a recognized civil organization so that the government inspectors may exclusively concentrate on the implementation of marine safety policy, in particular Port State Control. The amendment of relevant national law for this purpose is in progress, and it is expected to be ccmpleted within this year.
Please find the attached answers to your questionnaires.
Yours faithfully,
