このたび、秋篠宮妃殿下にお成りを頂き、アジア婦人友好会の共催を得て、日本太鼓チャリティコンサートを開催できますことは、まことに喜ばしいことであります。

　財団法人日本太鼓連盟は、今年で設立7年目を迎えます。任意団体であった24年前から、日本財団並びにモーターボート競走関連団体のご支援と太鼓関係者の皆様のご協力により、現在36都道府県が支部として加盟し、会員は810チーム・2万3千人の組織となりました。

　1997年の設立以来、当財団では日本太鼓の演奏会、ジュニアコンクール、障害者大会、講習会、技術認定事業など国内での太鼓の普及はもとより、30カ国にも及ぶ世界の国々で太鼓を通じた国際交流事業を実施してまいりました。

　昨年は、米国聾工科大学(ロチェスター工科大学内)の聴覚障害者教育に関する国際シンポジウムで、ろう者による太鼓演奏を米国で初めて紹介し、太鼓がろう者にとって音を楽しむ一つの手段であり、さまざまな方に親しまれていることを知っていただくことができました。また今年に入り、アメリカ太鼓連盟、ブラジル太鼓協会が相次いで発足し、海外における日本太鼓の普及と太鼓をとおした国際コミュニケーションが今後ますます期待されます。

　私どもは、これからも引続き数多くの公益活動を展開し、日本太鼓を国内のみならず国際的にも普及、発展させるべく最大の努力をしていく所存であります。

　本日は、全国各地の代表的な日本太鼓チームから選抜された5チームに、第6回日本太鼓ジュニアコンクールで優勝した宮崎県の華太鼓かんなの会「ふじ組」を加えた6チームによる演奏会です。

　ご来場いただきました皆様には、日本太鼓の演奏を最後までごゆっくりお楽しみいただき、コンサートを通じ、日本太鼓に対するご理解をいただければ幸いでございます。

 It is our great pleasure and honour to present the Taiko Charity Concert this evening in support of the activities of the Asia-Pacific Ladies Friendship Society, which is involved with communities across Asia and the Pacific countries helping the sick, the poor, the orphans, and also training the young and rehabilitating the needy.

 Nippon Taiko Foundation celebrates its 7th anniversary this year. Since its establishment in 1997, our Foundation, with the generous support from The Nippon Foundation, has implemented many projects including Taiko concerts, Taiko Junior Competitions, Performances by Handicapped Taiko Players, and various seminars and master courses. In the international arena, our foundation has dispatched Taiko member teams to 30 different countries within the last seven years. Today, our Foundation has 39 prefectural chapters throughout Japan. Under our wings, we have over 810 member teams, comprised of over 23,000 individual Taiko players.

 Last year, our deaf Taiko team participated in an international symposium on instructional technology, hosted by the National Technical Institute for the Deaf at the Rochester Institute of Technology. It was the first Taiko performance by a deaf Taiko team in the U.S., and their performances encouraged many audiences and contributed to increase the international awareness that even people with hearing impairment are able to enjoy and experience music through the vibration of Taiko.

 This year, two Taiko organizations were established: American Taiko Federation and Brazil Taiko Association. We hope to further promote Taiko overseas together with these organizations and to promote international exchanges.

 Six Taiko teams will be performing this evening. Five teams were selected to represent various regions in Japan. We are also pleased to introduce Hana TaikoKanna-no-kai "Fuji-gumi," the grandprize winner of the Sixth Nippon Taiko Junior Competition held in March 2004. We sincerely hope that you will enjoy the concert this evening.

　

　

　このたび、秋篠宮妃殿下にお成りを頂きまして、日本太鼓連盟の主催によりますアジア婦人友好会のためのチャリティコンサートが開催されますことを大変ありがたく存じております。多くの方々がこの特別の企画にご参集下さり、私共の活動を理解し支援して下さるとのことを伺い心から感謝申し上げます。

　私共アジア婦人友好会は、アジア・大洋州地域の平和と繁栄を願って、1968年に発足以来35年間、女性の手で親睦を深め、お互いの国の福祉活動や自然災害による被害救済に手を差しのべてまいりました。またお互いの文化や習慣を学び合うことにより、お互いへの理解を深めてきたと思います。特に、会員と共に出かける親善旅行では、写真で見、文章で読むのとは異なり、人々との直接の出会いや話し合い、珍しい風物にも直に触れ、そこから伝統文化を学び、さらなる親しみがわくことにより友情が一層深まることを実感いたしました。それぞれの訪問地で色々な太鼓の音色に歓迎されたことも懐かしく思い出しております。これからもお互いに手を取り合って、平和で豊かなアジア・大洋州を目指していきたいと思っております。

　本日、日本太鼓連盟のご好意により開かれます特別のチャリティコンサートでは、日本各地より参集された太鼓の芸術家の方々がアジア・大洋州の困っている人々に思いを馳せて、心一杯に太鼓を演奏してくださるそうでございます。うち鳴らされる太鼓の響きに、そして演奏家の皆様方の心意気に共鳴されて、アジア婦人会の活動へのご理解とご協力を賜りますれば幸いに存じます。皆様よりのご芳志はすべてそのまま福祉基金に入れまして各国で大事に使わせていただきます。

　秋篠宮妃殿下を始め、主催者の皆様、太鼓の演奏家の皆様、そしてご出席下さった友人の皆様方に心から御礼申し上げます。

　

　

 On behalf of the Asia-Pacific Ladies Friendship Society (ALFS), I would like to express my sincere gratitude and appreciation to the Nippon Taiko Foundation for their most generous support.

 ALFS, founded in 1968, is an organization that is not only promoting a genuine and deep friendship amongst its members from the Asia-Pacific region as well as foreign members and their Japanese friends, but is also an organization that cares for those who happen to be in need living in the member countries through its various positive and laudable activities. To meet this purpose ALFS holds various charitable events and functions with all the proceeds going to ease the burden of those in the Asia Pacific countries who happened to be distressed.

 We, the members of ALFS, are especially very much looking forward to this occasion. As you all may notice, the sound of the Taiko or various types of drums is a part of our common culture. Some of them are similar and others quite different. Each country has its own traditional sound of drum and dance. Through the performance of the night, I hope we are going to receive the warm heart of the performers and the audience through the sounds and we will be sure the performance will remind us of our home countries.

 I feel strongly obliged to express once again my utmost gratitude to the Nippon Taiko Foundation and the Taiko artists for holding the Taiko performance to support the betterment of the ALFS goals, and assure you that your donations will be most welcome for very good causes.
