4. Characteristics
4.1 The simple structure, enabling easy installation and inspection
 Components are integrated to reduce the number of parts.
(1) Reducing pipe connecting points
 The number of pipe connecting points is reduced by renewing piping system.
 (cooling water, fuel oil, lubricating oil, each drain, etc)
(2) The reduction of engine component parts by 50% in comparison to conventional engine models, resulting easier maintenance.
(3) The weight of main parts and exchange parts are about 40% lighter than conventional engine.
(4) Easy maintenance and assembling work reduce maintenance cost.
 Suitable tools and special hydraulic tools are supplied.
 
4.2 High Efficiency & Performance
 The heat efficiency attains nearly 45% even though small engine.
 It means low fuel oil consumption.
 
4.3 High reliability & durability
(1) The connecting rod is a horizontal cut three-piece design. There are many achievements in DK engine series. This design also reduces the height required for piston removal.
(2) Adopting protect ring (anti polishing ring) enables low lubricating oil consumption and long life of cylinder liner.
(3) The crank shaft is manufactured by CGF closed die forging, with increased crankpin diameter and journal diameter for optimal surface pressure and oil film thickness.
 
4.4 Optimum combustion with small cylinder bore
 Technology of heavy fuel combustion with small cylinder bore
(1) Optimized engine specifications (bore, stroke, compression ratio, boost pressure, intake and exhaust valve timing, fuel injection system, etc)
(2) Optimum swirl combustion
(3) Increase stroke/bore ratio
(4) High compression ratio piston with suitable combustion chamber shape
(5) Optimum combustion pressure and fuel injection pressure with non-cooled fuel oil nozzle
(6) Reduction of mechanical loss and gas flow loss
(7) One fresh water system with 2-stage air cooler
 
4.5 Environmental protection & Harmony
(1) NOx emission can meet the regulation of IMO
(2) Low CO2 emission because of low fuel oil consumption
(3) Low vibration and noise
(4) Substantial fire protection
 
4.6 Unique cooling water system with 2-stage air cooler
 The entire cooling system for the engine is one fresh water system. The system consists of LT (low temperature) and HT (high temperature) lines.
 This system has only each one inlet and outlet pipe connecting point.
 The HT water heats the intake air when the LT water is by-passed at low load for optimum combustion on heavy fuel oil.

4.7 Supporting electronic commerce
 The shipyard is progressing toward IT and streamlining production and design.
 For hull and out fitting design, standard 3-dimentional CAD is used, and TRIBON is well known as global-use software. The TRIBON 3D-CAD data can be supplied for shipyard.
 
4.8 Electronic monitoring and safety control devices
(1) Engine operation control is possible from the engine itself.
(2) Digital ink reduce exterior wiring.
Only one cable is needed in order to connect engine and control room.
(3) Wiring rail unit enables easy maintenance and allows compatibility with integrated system.
(4) Monitoring display enables high level control.
(5) Remote monitoring is possible from exterior connection units.

5. Conclusions
 The DC-17 inherits a vast amount of experience accumulated over the years from the DK engine series, as well as incorporating many novel development ideas.
 We are very confident that clients will be satisfied with this engine and looking forward to providing this engine to shipyards and ship owners.
