Ship K with ballast even keel condition at 10/10 zigzag test is shown in Fig. 14 and at 20/20 zigzag test is shown in Fig.15. There seems good agreement between predicted and measured results, including the shape of the curve.
Fig.16 and Fig.17 are predicted and measured results in the case of higher speed condition at Fn=0.156, as for Ship E with ballast 1% trim condition. Fig.16 and Fig.17 are same condition with Fig.2(iii) and Fig.3(iii) at Fn=0.059, except Fn. It seems that numerical simulations can represent the difference of the initial ship speed well.
Fig.18 shows the results of different ship speed. Fig.18(a) shows the initial speed has much effect on advance. Fig.18(c) shows the initial speed has much effect on the first overshoot angle in zigzag motion.
4. CONCLUDING REMARKS
We proposed approximate formulae for estimating the coefficients of hydrodynamic forces acting on ship. According to numerical simulation by using the approximate formulae, close agreement between calculated and measured results was obtained. The approximate formulae would be useful to predict manoeuvring performance at the design stage from practical points of view.
