The necessary functions of simulator for applying training are decide depending on the object techniques of training. Usually, training scenarios are developed relating to the real situation that are ship handling for collision avoidance, ship handling for navigation in restricted waterway, ship handling for berthing jetty and so on. Table 1 and Table 2 show the relation between the object techniques of training that is required mariner's function and necessary function of simulator. Table 1 shows the relation in case of training for collision avoiding maneuver.

Table 2 shows the relation in case of training for navigation in restricted water way. Relating functions are listed only items. The quality is also important factor. The required contents of function should be clarified to achieve the effective training.

When we discuss the training using RADAR/ARPA and training using Full mission ship-handling simulator, the capable training region using either simulator is clarified based on the functions of both simulator. Present mandatory training using the simulator has to be contained in them. We have to discuss this issue from viewpoint of the simulator function. After the discussion on this issue, additional training will be carried out using RADAR/ARPA simulator.
