本日は、第6回日本太鼓全国フェスティバルにお越しいただきありがとうございます。

　財団法人日本太鼓連盟は、本年で設立6年目を迎えます。日本財団のご支援をいただきながらこの6年の間に太鼓関係者や関係団体のご協力により着実に前進してまいりました。現在では35都道府県が支部として加盟し、加盟団体数は800チームを上回り、会員総数も2万3千人を超えております。また、海外においては太鼓の演奏が「日本の心」を伝えるものとして高く評価され、財団設立以来28カ国で公演を行ってまいりました。今年は1月に韓国の日韓国民交流年記念式典に参加、また9月には新たな拠点作りのためアメリカ、10月には日中国交正常化30周年記念として中国にて公演を行う予定であります。当財団といたしましては、国内外を問わず、これからの日本太鼓の普及、振興を図っていくため多くの太鼓愛好者を視野に入れ、目標を掲げ積極的に事業を展開していく所存であります。

　このように日本太鼓が脚光を浴びるなか、日本各地を代表する太鼓チームが一堂に会し、世界的スポーツイベントである「2002FIFAワールドカップ」に合わせて、優勝戦前日に開催できますことは大変喜ばしいことであり、これを機会に更に世界中の方々に日本太鼓の素晴らしさを理解していただければ幸いであります。

　お忙しい中ご来場下さいました皆さまには、わが国の優れた伝統文化である日本太鼓の力強い響きを最後までごゆっくりお楽しみいただくとともに、当財団の今後の活動にご理解ご支援を賜りますようお願い申し上げます。

　It is a great honour for us to be able to present the 6th Nippon TAIKO Festival, in conjunction with the 2002 FIFA World Cup. On behalf of the Foundation, I would like to take this opportunity to express our heartfelt appreciation to the Agency for Cultural Affairs, Kanagawa Prefecture, Yokohama City, The Nippon Foundation, and those who have put great effort to make this festival possible.

　Nippon Taiko Foundation celebrates its 6th anniversary this year. Since its establishment in 1997, our Foundation, with the generous support from The Nippon Foundation, has implemented many projects including Taiko Concerts, Taiko Junior Competitions, Performances by Mentally and Physically Challenged Taiko Players, and various seminars and master courses. Today, our Foundation has 37 prefectural chapters throughout Japan. Under our wings, we have over 800 member teams, comprised of over 23,000 individual Taiko players.

　In the international arena, Taiko has been highly appreciated as a successful tool to introduce the spirit of Japan. Taiko performances have been received with overwhelming enthusiasm in 28 different countries we have visited within the last six years since the establishment of the Foundation. This year, our member Taiko team participated in the opening ceremony of the Year of Japan-Korea National Exchange in Seoul. We will also send Taiko teams to California in September to establish a North American base for Taiko activities, and to Beijing, China, in October to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of Normalization of Japan-China Diplomatic Relations. We hope to continue to preserve and to further promote Taiko traditions both domestically and internationally.

　This concert features the very top 12 teams specially selected from different regions of Japan. We sincerely hope that you will enjoy the experience of encountering Taiko, which is considered the spirit of Japan.

　

　第6回日本太鼓全国フェスティバルをこの神奈川で開催できますことは、私たちの大きな喜びであり、全国から来県された皆様を心から歓迎申し上げます。

　日本太鼓は、古来から郷土の中で生まれ、育まれてきた伝統芸能であり、全国各地で特色のある活発な演奏活動が行われております。また、近年では海外にも活躍の場が広がり、日本の伝統文化のひとつとして国際的な関心も高まってきております。

　今回の日本太鼓全国フェスティバルでは、全国各地で活躍する太鼓演奏団体の中から選りすぐられた10団体と、地元神奈川を代表する2団体が一堂に会して力強い演奏を披露して下さいます。ご来場の皆様には、日本太鼓の魅力を存分に感じていただけるものと確信しております。

　折りしも本年はワールドカップサッカー大会開催の年であり、神奈川県内にも世界各国から大勢のサッカーファンや観光客の皆様が訪れています。

　本県では大会開催を契機として、来訪された皆様に日本と本県の伝統芸能や世界の民族芸能などを紹介する『Arts Fusion 2002 in KANAGAWA−世界の民族芸能・芸術の祭典』を開催してまいりました。決勝戦の前日に行われる本フェスティバルが、祭典の最後を締めくくるに相応しい催しとなり、多くの皆様が日本太鼓の勇壮な響きを堪能して下さることを期待しています。

　最後に、本フェスティバルの開催にあたり、多大なご尽力をいただきました財団法人日本太鼓連盟の皆様に心から感謝申し上げますとともに、関係の皆様の今後、ますますのご活躍を祈念して、ごあいさつといたします。

　

　It is with great pleasure for the Kanagawa Prefecture to host the 6th Nippon Taiko Festival and to welcome each one of you for coming to our prefecture.

　Taiko, our traditional performing art, has originated in different regions of Japan since the ancient period. Each Taiko team has its unique rhythm and style, with its regional colors. In recent years, as more Taiko performances are given abroad, Taiko is now receiving great international attention as one of the traditional cultures of Japan.

　I am happy that two teams from Kanagawa Prefecture are performing alongside the very top 10 Taiko teams selected from all over Japan. I am certain that the powerful Taiko performances by all 12 teams will grasp the hearts of every one in attendance.

　Many soccer fans and tourists from all over the world are visiting Kanagawa Prefecture for the FIFA World Cup Games this year. Kanagawa Prefecture has mounted the "Arts Fusion 2002 in Kanagawa 〜 World Ethnic Performing Arts Festival," a series of performances introducing traditional performing arts of our prefecture, our country, and from overseas. We expect that the Nippon Taiko Festival held on a day before the final game of the FIFA World Cup will successfully conclude this Arts Festival, and will make the audience greatly satisfied with the lively beats of Taiko.

　Finally, on behalf of the citizens of Kanagawa Prefecture, I would like to express my hearty appreciation to the Nippon Taiko Foundation for sponsoring this festival, and I sincerely wish for the continued success in their endeavors of those who have put great efforts to make this festival possible.

　

　第6回日本太鼓全国フェスティバルが盛大に開催されますことを心よりお慶び申し上げます。

　日本太鼓は、我が国において古来より受け継がれ、また、全国各地で地域に根付いた活動として行われている伝統文化であります。大太鼓の勇壮華麗な響きや小太鼓の素朴で繊細な響きには、どこか私たちの魂奥深くを呼び覚ますような力が込められており、日本が世界に誇る音楽文化の一つであるといっても過言ではありません。

　この日本太鼓は、近年では、郷土を代表する伝統芸能として見直され、また、青少年の健全な育成にも活用されるなど、全国各地で活発な活動が行われています。また中には伝統の中にも新しい創意工夫が施され、地域の新しい文化として定着しているものもあります。こうした中で、この度、第6回日本太鼓全国フェスティバルが開催されますことは、日本太鼓の地域への普及振興や技術の向上など、担い手の方々の励みともなっており、誠に意義深く感じます。

　折りしも、今年はワールドカップサッカー大会が我が国で開催されておりますが、大会期間中は、世界から注目が集まるとともに、多くの人々が訪れます。日本に関心を持ち、日本について感心を深めてもらう、またとないチャンスです。の日本太鼓全国フェスティバルを通じて、我が国の伝統文化への国際的な理解がさらに深まることを強く期待しています。

　最後に、本大会の開催にご尽力されました財団法人日本太鼓連盟をはじめとする関係者の皆様に心から敬意を表しますとともに、本大会のご成功とますますのご発展を祈念いたします。

　

　On this auspicious occasion of the 6th Nippon Taiko Festival, I would like to extend my heartfelt congratulations.

　Taiko is one of our musical cultures we are proud of. Originated in the Japanese ancient period, Taiko has been handed down through generations in different parts of Japan. Taiko beats, from majestic sound of O-Taiko (Japanese big drums) to more simple and sensitive sound of smaller Taiko, have the power of touching our heart and soul.

　In recent years, Taiko has been given the attention once again as a regional traditional art and as a successful tool to introduce regional cultures of Japan. Taiko is also given the attention as an educational tool for young people. In addition to the traditional Taiko passed down from our ancestors, new Taiko tradition has been established by incorporating modern music and style into the traditional performing styles. I am certain that the Nippon Taiko Festival will stimulate Taiko players to learn different techniques and to further promote Taiko throughout all regions of Japan.

　As the 2002 FIFA World Cup is being held in our country, many people are visiting Japan and we are getting international attention. I feel it is an ideal and timely opportunity to deepen the international understanding towards our traditional culture through the 6th Nippon Taiko Festival.

　I would like to extend my sincere wishes for the success of the 6th Nippon Taiko Festival in its endeavor to further promote Taiko culture, and to express my respect to the Nippon Taiko Foundation and to all those who made this festival possible.

　

　「第6回日本太鼓全国フェスティバル」の開催まことにおめでとうございます。横浜市民を代表して心から歓迎いたします。

　6月30日には、2002FIFAワールドカップサッカー大会の決勝戦が横浜国際総合競技場で開催されます。世界中の目が横浜に注がれているこの時期に、日本の代表的な伝統芸能である日本太鼓を世界の人々にご紹介できる機会ができましたことは、大変喜ばしいことだと考えています。

　現在、世界中からその国の伝統的な文化が失われていく中で、日本太鼓は今もなお多くの国民に愛されているだけではなく、国外の方々をも魅了しています。太鼓の響きは子どもから大人まで幅広い年代の皆さんから愛され、身近な地域のお祭りから大規模な国際的イベントまで数多く登場しています。

　このようなすばらしい催しが多くの観客を魅了し、横浜から全国へ、さらには世界へ向けて発信されることを期待するとともに、大変嬉しく思っています。

　最後に、本フェスティバルのご成功と財団法人日本太鼓連盟のますますのご発展と出演者並びにご来場の皆様のご健勝を祈念して、あいさつとさせていただきます。

　

　I would like to express my warmest congratulations to Nippon Taiko Foundation on the occasion of the 6th Nippon Taiko Festival. It is a great privilege and honour for me, on behalf of the citizens of Yokohama City, to welcome every one of you to Yokohama.

　As the final game of the 2002 FIFA World Cup is going to be held at the International Stadium Yokohama on June 30, Yokohama is receiving global attention. It is a great honour that we have an opportunity to introduce Taiko, a representative traditional performing art of Japan, to people of the world through this Festival.

　While many precious traditional cultures are getting neglected in many countries around the world, Taiko is fortunate to be still dearly loved by people of Japan and also to have fascinated many people overseas. The sound of Taiko has been enjoyed by people of all ages, from pre-kindergartners to senior citizens, and often asked to participate at the regional festivals and at big international events such as today.

　I am certain and pleased that this Taiko Festival will captivate the audiences and to successfully convey the Japanese spirit from here in Yokohama to people of the world.

　We sincerely hope for the success of the 6th Nippon Taiko Festival, and for the prosperity of the Nippon Taiko Foundation, the performers, and each one of the audiences.

　

　第6回日本太鼓全国フェスティバルが、神奈川県横浜市において開催されますことは誠に光栄の極みであり、望外の喜びこの上なく感謝に耐えません。また、このフェスティバルが、新世紀スポーツ最大の祭典でもあるサッカー・ワールドカップ記念の舞台芸術交流促進事業の一環として、横浜国際総合競技場で行われる優勝戦前日に実施の運びとなりましたことは大変意義深いものがあると思います。ご高尚のとおり、日本の太鼓は我が国特有の伝統文化として、また郷土を代表する芸能として、日本の心を発信してまいりましたが、今やグローバルな活動として海外にその裾野は大きく拡がりつつあります。

　先般、横浜市において“名宝にみる文化交流の軌跡”と題して、中国遼寧省、韓国京畿道、日本神奈川県の文物展が催され、このオープニングイベントで中国の獅子舞、韓国のサムルノリ、そして日本太鼓の演奏が行われました。まさに国際化であり、太鼓を通しての心のジョイントだと実感しました。

　このたび第6回日本太鼓全国フェスティバルの開催地としてご推薦いただきましたことに対しましては（財）日本太鼓連盟並びに関係機関の皆様に心から感謝とお礼を申し上げます。今回は全国から最優秀チームとして選抜された10チーム、そして地元神奈川県2チームが夢の競演を繰り広げます。開催にあたりましては、（財）日本太鼓連盟のご指導をいただきながら地元神奈川県支部として、お迎えする皆様方にご満足頂けるべく万全を期して準備を進めて参りました。

　ご来場の皆様方には、不行き届きの部分もあろうかとは存じますが、選び抜かれた精鋭による日本太鼓の神髄をご堪能いただければ幸甚です。今後とも皆様方の熱烈なご声援と、尚一層のご指導をお願い申し上げるとともに、ご助力ご支援を賜りました関係各位に厚くお礼を申し上げご挨拶とさせていただきます。

　

　It is with distinct pleasure that the 6th Nippon Taiko Festival is being held in Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture. It is especially meaningful that this Festival takes place just a day before the final game of the 2002 FIFA World Cup, also as the final performing project of a series of performing arts exchanges, held in conjunction with this biggest sporting event at the beginning of the new century.

　As a unique traditional culture representing the performing folk arts of Japan, Taiko has been a tool to introduce the spirit of Japan. Taiko has also become popular in many different countries worldwide. I was assured of this when Taiko was performed together with Chinese lion-dances and Korean Samul Nori at the opening ceremony of "Treasures of Lioning, Kyonggi & Kanagawa," a tri-cultural exhibition of China, Korea, and Japan, held in Yokohama last year.

　I would like to take this opportunity to express my appreciation to the Nippon Taiko Foundation and all those who have worked to select to bring this Festival to Kanagawa Prefecture.

　We are fortunate to have the ten representative Taiko teams selected from all over Japan and two teams from Kanagawa Prefecture for the 6th Nippon Taiko Festival. I sincerely hope that you will enjoy a variety of Taiko performances and experience the spirit of Japanese Taiko.

　Finally, we would like to-extend heartfelt appreciation to those who have tirelessly supported us to realize this Festival.
