7才でバイオリンを始め、ウィーンでマックス・ヴァイスゲルバー教授（ウィーンフィル交響楽団、国立オペラ管弦楽団のメンバーであり著名な弦楽四重奏団奏者として知られている）の指導を受ける。このような環境から、早くから室内楽への関心を持つようになる。

　1948年・アマデウス・クァルテット結成時のメンバーとなる。同クァルテットは以後、正に40年間メンバーを変えることなく世界の室内楽部門で主要な地位を占める。1987年、メンバーの一人ペーター・シッドロフの死亡により解散となる。アマデウス・クァルテットの活動と並行してケルン音楽大学で15年間室内楽を教えるとともに、1986年以降はロンドン王立音楽学校で室内楽部門の責任者となる。1988年、同クァルテットの2名と共に王立音楽アカデミーで2週間の研修を再開するとともに、オランダ、日本、フランス、フィンランド、ドイツ、イタリア各国でフェスティバルを開催。

　また彼個人の活動としては、ザルツブルグのモーツァルテウムやフランス・リヨンのムジカードその他ヨーロッパ各国での夏期アカデミーでマスターコースを開催。各種コンクールで審査委員として活動する他、音楽関係団体の顧問を勤めている。

　

Prof. Siegmund NISSEL started to study violin at the age of seven and moved to Vienna in 1932, where he studied with Prof. Max Weissgaerber, a member of the Vienna Philharmonic and the Opera Orchestra, who also led a well-known string quartet. Hence Prof. Siegmund NISSEL's early introduction to chamber music Prof. Siegmund NISSEL was a founding member of the Amadeus Quartet in 1948, which very quickly played a major part in the international chamber music scene and did so for virtually 40 years without change of members, but was dissolved with the untimely death of one member, Peter Schidlof, in 1987. Together with his Amadeus colleagues Prof. Siegmund NISSEL has taught chamber music at the Musikhochschule, Cologne, for 15 years and since 1986 also at the Royal Academy of Music, London, where he has acted as Director of chamber music. In 1988, he and his two remaining Amadeus colleagues started a yearly two-weeks' course held at the Royal Academy of Music. They also teach together and play concerts at the Orlando Festival, Holland, and similar festivals in Japan, France, Finland, Germany and Italy.

On his own, Prof. Siegmund NISSEL gives master-classes at the Mozarteum, Salzburg, at the "Musicades" in Lyon, France, and other conservatories and at summer academies all over Europe. Prof. Siegmund NISSEL enjoys being a jury member at competitions and is acting as adviser to many music organizations.

　1928年プラハに生まれる。1930年代の初期の音楽教育を母親の音楽学校で受け、ミラン・シュカンパ教授は最も著名なチェコの教師およびセヴシック学校の当時主要な主唱者と共にプラハ音楽・演劇芸術院でバイオリン研究を終える。1950年代、彼は更にプラハのチャールズ大学から音楽学の博士号を取る。

　バイオリン奏者としての10年間のキャリアを経て、楽器と理論の両面の優れた才能の点から同教授は1956年、世界的に名高いスメタナ・クァルテットより、ヴィオラ奏者として、また、音楽面のアドバイザーとして誘いを受ける。このユニークな提示は、彼の芸術に対する志向と完全に一致したため、同教授は躊躇なくヴィオラ奏者へと転向し、わずか数ヶ月でクァルテットのレパートリーをマスターする。

Born in 1928, in Prague. Having gained his early musical education in his mother's private music school in the thirties, Milan kampa went on to complete his violin studies with the most prominent Czech teachers and foremost protagonists of the Sevcik school of the time at the Prague Academy of Music and Dramatic Art. At this time, in the fifties, he also took his musicological PhD from Charles University in Prague.

After ten years of a career as a violinist and having made himself a name in terms of both instrumental and theoretical prowess, he was approached, in 1956, by the Smetana Quartet, already a world-renowned ensemble to become one of their member as both a viola player and a musicological adviser. This unique offer, which was in complete harmony with his artistic aspirations, inspired him to shift without hesitation to the viola and mastered within a few months the Quartet's repertoire by heart.

In both his new capacities he lived through the next 33 years with the Smetana Quartet in about 3400 concerts in 43 countries as well as some 100 recordings. Since 1967 he has been teaching the viola and chamber music at the Prague Academy, and from 1990 also at the Scuola di Musica de Fiesole (Florence) as professor of string-quartet playing. His scholarly activities concentrate on the work of Leos Janacek mainly his string quartets. Since the early eighties, capitalizing on the decades of his practical and theoretical experience, Milan kampa has been keenly active as juror on the international competitions circuit of string quartets.

　

　

　1950年、8才でリサイタルを開く。桐朋学園で故・斎藤秀雄に師事し、1956年に文化放送賞、1957年に第26回日本音楽コンクール1位及び特別賞を受賞。1961年、アメリカ・インディアナ大学に留学し、ヤーノシュ・シュタルケル氏に師事。1963年ミュンヘン国際コンクールで2位、カザルス国際コンクールで1位を受賞。以後、本格的な演奏活動を始め世界各地に定期的に招かれ、世界の主要なオーケストラと数多く共演している。

　第2回サントリー音楽賞、ウジェーヌ・イザイ・メダル、芸術祭放送大賞、第7回有馬賞及びモービル賞等を受賞。また、レコード録音の際の優れた演奏に対し2度にわたり芸術祭優秀賞を受賞。1993年日本芸術院賞を受賞。1988年より、インディアナ大学教授の他、桐朋学園大学客員教授として後進の指導にもあたる。また日本チェロ協会会長を勤める。

　

With the U.S.A. as his base, Prof. Tsuyoshi TSUTSUMI is representing Japan in his activities as a cellist. He gave his first recital in 1950 at the age of eight and studied under Prof. Hideo Saito at Toho Gakuen School of Music. He won the Bunka-Hoso Prize in 1956, and the 1st prize and a special award at the 26th Music Competition of Japan in 1957. In 1961 he studied under the guidance of Prof. Janos Starker at Indiana University, in 1963 he was a prize winner at the Munich International Music Competition and won the 1st prize at the Casals International Competition. With these successes, his career took off, and he has since performed regularly all over the world with several of the world's major orchestras.

Prof. Tsuyoshi TSUTSUMI has won many prizes, including the 2nd Suntory Music Prize, the Eugne Ysae Medal, the Arts Festival Broadcasting Grand Prix, the 7th Arima Prize and the Mobil Prize. In 1993 he was awarded the Japan Academy Award. Furthermore, he has twice received the Arts Festival Award of Excellence for his recordings. Since 1988 he is a professor at Indiana University, and is also a visiting Professor at Toho Gakuen School of Music. He is the President of Japan Cello Society.

　

　

　昭和13年東京生まれ。大阪音楽大学ピアノ科卒業。同大学在学中、沖田静子教授に師事する。ピアニスト、アンサンブル奏者として幅広く演奏活動を行っている。特に歌曲伴奏に高い評価を得る。

　近年は公開講座、公開レッスン、各種コンクール、オーディションの審査員等で招かれることも多い。

　1967年、1977年に大阪文化祭賞を受賞。1975年大阪文化祭奨励賞を受賞。日本ピアノ教育連盟等、様々な委員会に於いて、委員長、副委員長を勤める。現在は大阪音楽大学名誉教授も勤める。著書に「ツェルニー30番練習の手引き」、またCDは「ソナチネ・アルバム」他数枚をリリースしている。

　

Born in Tokyo in 1938, Prof. Toshikazu UMEMOTO was graduated from Osaka University of Music where he majored in Piano. While a university student, he studied under Prof. Shizuko Okita. Prof. Umemoto has pursued an active performing career, both as a pianist and as an ensemble player. Especially, he is a very highly regarded accompanist.

Prof. UMEMOTO is in demand as a teacher for seminars, public lessons, as well as a jury member of competitions and auditions. He has won many prizes, including the Culture Festival prize of Osaka in 1967 and 1977, and the Promotion of Culture Festival prize of Osaka in 1975. Prof. UMEMOTO has served as a chairman and vice chairman of various committees including the Japan Piano Teachers Association. He is currently the Professor Emeritus of the Osaka University of Music. His published works include the text book, "Etude de mecanisme, Carl Czerny op.849" as well as several musical CDs such as "Sonatina Album" and others.
