1. Research on mooring of tension leg type large semi-submersible platforms 2 1 K. Yoshida Develops an analytical calculation program for the mooring of tension leg type large semi- submersible platforms designed under severe sea conditions.
2. Development of mechanical joints on floating structures 2 2 K.Yoshida Investigates the development of mechanical joints separating or connecting blocks of floating structures.
3. Research on method of concept creation 2 1 K.Yoshida Based on the need to create ideas for the future of Japanese society, investigates new scientific methods to create concepts of hard and soft ware.
4. Research on design of tank of oil tankers considering exchange of ballast water 2 2 N. Miyakawa It was concluded in the first-year experiments that the capacity of the ballast tank must increase the capacity of cargo oil tanks by about 5% and the size of the ballast tank must be divided into two with the increase in number. This year, investigation is continued on 40-150 thousand ton tankers.

4. Feasibility study of wind power generation system on floating structures 3 3 K. Ikegami Investigates the possibility of practical use of generation system on floating structures in the ocean.
5. Research on safety devices to prevent capsizing of small boats 3 3 C.I. Shin Investigates safety devices to avoid the capsizing of ships and ensure the safety of ships.

Yakiwama Based on investigations conducted to date on withdrawal devices for flow out oil in the sea, investigates design of actual ship particularly regarding efficiency of withdrawal and shape of floating structure.
8. Research on longitudinal ship strength considering warping of ship sections 4 4 M. Nose Investigates theories of longitudinal ship strength particularly considering the effect of deformation of the transverse section of ships.
9. Research on application of theory on longitudinal ship strength considering warping of ship's transverse section 5 4 M. Nose Develops a practical system of longitudinal ship strength of ships based on the VB-Warps system, which has a given strength response of the hollow beam of the variable section considering the effect of the deformation of the ship's section.
10. Research on the effect of warping of the transverse section on longitudinal ship strength 5 5 M. Nose Based on the VB-Warps system, investigates the effective steel arrangement to decrease the effect of longitudinal bulkhead on the design of middle class DHT, DH type VLCC and bulk carriers.

18. Research on engine arrangement of small pleasure boats 4 2 K. Nakao From the environmental perspective, investigates a pleasure boat applied fuel battery as the main engine.
19. Analysis of effect of water surface on WIG applying the Green function on vortex in air 5 4 T. Hori Theoretically analyzes the effect of free water surface on WIG. Until last year, the development of analytical methods on vortex in air was completed using the Green function of wave making. This year, investigates extension to three dimension of the analysis and completion of the Green function of wave making.
