Conducts fire experiments referring
to the previous experiment to verify the fire expansion analysis code. Referring
to this experiment, performs a final arrangement of the modeling and parameters
of the code and makes it more practical. Completes two types of analysis codes
(machines/tools damage evaluation code and fire expansion analysis code) that
began development in 1999. As regards sample plant evaluation and scenario setting,
based on the above experiment and improvement of the present code, collects information
and evaluates the occurrence frequency of phenomenon occurring considering a practical
object plant, and attempts a preliminary analysis. |

(1) Investigation of collision scenario
and safety criteria: Performs probabilistic safety analysis, proposes a reasonable
collision scenario considering the actual operation state. (2) Simplified analysis
of collision strength: Proposes a new simplified analysis method as an alternative
to the Minorsky method, and verifies its effectiveness. (3) FEM simulation analysis
for collision: Investigates a reasonable application technique of FEM analysis
of elements generation and judgment of destruction. Analyzes for trial the side
structure of an existing carrier by FEM and compares with the result by the simplified
method for verification. |

(1) Study on micro-bubble: Manufactures
ultra-small channel. Conducts micro-bubble experiments corresponding to numerical
simulation, and acquires data for verification. (2) Study on numerical simulation
of multiphase turbulent flow: Examines the effects of pressure distribution around
the bubble, velocity gradient and unsteady vortex motion on the bubble motion
by direct numerical simulation to obtain information concerning interference of
turbulence and bubble. Modeling the obtained information, performs numerical calculation
of bubbly flows in channel and examines the agreement of calculated and experimental
results. (3) Study on measuring technique of multiphase flow: Conducts detailed
measurement on distribution of turbulent intensity, Reynolds stress and vorticity
of fluid phase part in flow field around the bubble, clarifies experimentally
the mechanism of frictional drag reduction. (4) Management of Center for Smart
Control Turbulence: Monitors studies to be conducted in 2002, holds a general
assembly, international conference and evaluation committee, maintains the home
page and prepares research reports, evaluation reports in 2001, planning papers
and detailed execution of research programs in 2002. (5) Study on bubble generating
technique: Using small bubble generation equipment improved in 2001, conducts
controlling tests of small bubble in low velocity flow by discharging a water
jet into the vicinity of wall. (6) Study on measuring system of microbubble: Improves
the system for highly accurate experiment and automatic operation of experiment
using the highspeed small channel, and acquires experimental data for verification.
Develops control technique to reduce the combustion noise and vibration and confirms
its effectiveness and operation range. |

As regards the interference of ice
and oil, by experiment in a low temperature chamber, investigates the process
in the ice melting season of reflowing out oil, which is locked in ice by the
oil-ice-sandwich-phenomenon. As for the behavior of oil spilled out into sea ice,
conducts experiments in the ice model basin for the following two cases: Water
flow under the ice sheet, and sea ice not fully covered by an ice sheet but mixed
with ice pieces and water. As this is the final year of this project, completes
all studies. |

(1) Measures specific heat, heat
conductivity and dissociation heat if necessary and possible.
(2)Evaluates experimentally the difference of the dissociation between with and
without the static compressive load. Designs and manufactures the test machines
of dynamic loading (cycling load) and conducts preliminary experiments.
(3) Designs and manufactures measuring devices of dissociation speed, and measures
the dissociation speed by varying the thermal condition under the self-maintaining
state.
(4) As a basis for estimation of the dissociation speed in the full-scale condition,calculates
the heat condition considering dissociation (heat consumption reaction).
(5) Corresponding to the concept design progress of the ship (in the charge of
mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding Co., LTD), clarifies the summary of necessary
safety measures. |
