(1) Examines domestic as well as international needs, technical
support and services concerning CFD/CAD in ship design technology for governmental
and commercial use. (2) Examines state-of-the-art and technical trends of CFD
technique, explores needs and extracts information necessary to form the strategy.
(3) Clarifies the system structure to be provided by NMRI, the service offering
system and important research subjects on CFD/CAD technique. Proposes a time schedule
to design the strategy and construct the organization of CFD technique required
to accomplish the above purpose. |

of analysis procedure. Evaluates the draft procedure using test pieces and amends
it. Establishes analysis technique using fluorescent X ray. |

(1) Development and evaluation of the system for diagnosing/estimating
long-term integrity: Continues full-scale experiments by resetting the measuring
sensors necessary but at a minimum on the floating body used as the floating data
center (part of Mega-Float). Evaluates the diagnosing/estimating system for long-term
integrity developed in the previous full-scale experiment for evaluating the function
of the floating data center using Mega-Float. (2) Study on oscillation mitigation
system (Oscillation Mitigating Mechanism) for Mega-Float and buildings on it:
Develops a program analyzing the coupling oscillation between Mega-Float and buildings
on it in wind and waves. (3) Study on the technology to improve sea quality maintenance:
Using one of the Mega- Floats with excellent sea quality maintenance, and aiming
at the Mega-Float with a moored wave absorbing floating body, examines the optimum
shape of the wave absorbing floating body by 2D model tests and numerical analysis. |

Designs and manufactures experimental apparatus to produce
methane hydrate underlow temperature and high-pressure conditions and to measure
the dissociating behavior. Examines the dissociating behavior of methane hydrate
produced using ice grain as the core material with a controlled grain diameter
for various dissociation temperatures as the test parameter. Confirms reproducibility
by comparing with the results obtained by other apparatus. Clarifies the effect
of the dissociation temperature on the dissociation speed of hydrate quantitatively,
as well as qualitatively. |

sealing of rubber bags at the melting temperature of propylene and improves such
abilities. Confirms the effectiveness of forming vacuum bags by heating using
the preliminary formed plate mixed with reinforced fiber. Searches for the optimum
forming condition. (2) Develops the weaving technique for the thick material used
for strengthening and the varying thickness material used for reducing stress
concentration. Evaluates the saturation characteristics of the resin of such materials. |

(1) Analyzes the data on weather and sea states collected
last year, and builds a database of the emitting state of radioactive substance
to the ocean and dose rate distribution in transport ships and transport containers.
(2) Develops simulation codes of radioactive substance diffusion into the ocean
and air from various transported goods at the time of accident, and evaluates
its effect on the public. (3) Develops a simulation code system to create accident
conditions of transported goods during sea transport and also to estimate the
exposure dose in crews in charge of transport and the public in an accident, and
evaluates their exposure dose. |

(1) Procures eroded steal plates from repaired tankers, and
measures plate thickness and throat depth. (2) Evaluates the applicability of
paint for inspection of the welded joint, and conducts endurance tests against
the weather. Collects basic data for the crack inspection technique using surface
SH wave with test pieces of plane plate and welded joint, and compares with other
techniques. Conducts tests to verify the applicability of the measuring technique
of decreased throat depth by supersonic wave, as well as the measuring technique
of the thickness of eroded steal plate and steal plate covered with painted membrane
by impulse hammer. |

Conducts the following itemsto develop an inspection technique
of aging degradation for double hull tankers, and presents the first proposal
of ESP to put into concrete shape this project's result:. (1) Collects erosion
data on every kind of tank and every place, and analyzes those data. (2) Collects
erosion fatigue data in an actual tank atmosphere. (3) Surveys the true state
of erosion when docking. (4) Conducts series analysis on aging degradation structure,
and surveys papers on analytical modeling of the degradation (except for uniform
decrease of plate thickness). (5) Examines guidelines by classification society
for erosion limit, and first proposes technique for DH tanker ESP. |
