9. Other matters of importance to ISO/TC 8: The following are comments and resolutions from the 8th annual SC 3 meeting that we feel are of importance to ISO/TC 8:
The Subcommittee noted that the Chairman of SC 3, Mr. Tom Hopkins of the USA, has indicated to TC 8 his intention of resigning as Chair of SC 3 effective December 2002. The Subcommittee acknowledged Mr. Hopkins' tremendous contributions, success and leadership during his tenure in SC 3 as Secretariat and Chairman. Any members interested in the position of Chairman of SC 3 are encouraged to notify the Secretariat of SC 3 or the Chairman of TC 8.
Resolution 133 Need for stronger participation and leadership
After reviewing the list of possible new work items, which has remained essentially the same for several years, it was agreed by SC 3 that there is a strong need for better participation by ISO/TC 8/SC 3 P members in the development of proposals for new work items. The Secretariat shall notify SC 3 member bodies and liaisons of this resolution, in an effort to increase participation and leadership in the development of new standards. The Secretariat shall inform TC 8 of this concern at the next TC 8 plenary meeting, and request their support.
Resolution 135 Difficulty with ISO template
Members of SC 3 have commented that the ISO electronic template for development of standards is difficult for Project Leaders to use, due to design problems with the template and lack of training. SC 3
determined that training on the template is urgently required, preferably computer desktop type portable modules. The Secretariat shall gather specific information regarding problems with the ISO template from members of SC 3, and inform the ISO/CS and the Secretariat of TC 8 of these problems, as well as recommendations for improvements. The Secretariat shall inform TC 8 of this concern at the next TC 8 plenary meeting, and request their support.
Chairman of ISO/TC 8/SC 3.
